As the Gulf Coast continues to exhibit our strength as we rebuild our lives, homes and communities, there is a very important part of this community that still needs our help…underprivileged children in the three coastal counties.
Johnny and Kim Beck were among those who wanted to help these children. After participating in Christmas programs for over 26 years, the Becks established the non-profit organization, Gulf Coast for Kids, to ensure that needy children right here on the coast received the help that they deserved. Today Gulf Coast for Kids is 17 years strong and has continuously raised funds to benefit over 20,000 coast children. All proceeds raised by the organization go directly to the children as there are no overhead expenses and all our members are volunteers. Help is given to children in Jackson, Harrison and Hancock Counties through lists obtained from various organizations and the public schools in each county. Gulf Coast for Kids also assists with emergency dental, medical and eye care along with emergency assistance.
Christmas is the season of joy and giving. Most of these children do not expect to experience a happy time during the Christmas season, as many families are unable to provide for their children due to poverty and in some cases the devastation still due to Hurricane Katrina. Imagine their disappointment when they wake up Christmas morning thinking that Santa has passed them by…again. You can help change that feeling.
